Opmerkingen

Beniopa was a small municipality in the Valencia region that, like hundreds of other Spanish Republican towns during the Civil War, issued its own emergency small-change notes when metallic coinage disappeared from circulation almost entirely after 1936. The hoarding of copper and silver, combined with the disruption of the Mint, forced local councils to improvise. Most of these issues were produced on whatever card stock was available locally, which is exactly what the thick substrate here reflects — not a deliberate choice, but a practical one.

Beniopa has since been absorbed into Gandia. The municipality that issued this note no longer exists as an administrative entity.
