| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays the denomination and date in boldly engraved Latin numerals and characters, with '5c.' prominently positioned above the year '1920'. The issuer's name and the manufacturer's imprint 'THEVENON & C°' appear within the circular legend, all contained within a beaded inner border. The overall design is typographic in character, with no pictorial elements, following the utilitarian style typical of French commercial emergency tokens of the early twentieth century. |

Issued by the local merchants' and trade syndicate of Saint-Gaudens, a small town in Haute-Garonne at the foot of the Pyrenees, this token belongs to the vast wave of emergency chambre de commerce and syndicate issues that flooded France after 1914. The wartime requisition of copper and nickel for munitions gutted the national coin supply, and by 1920 many communities were still relying on privately organized local brass tokens to keep small transactions moving.
Saint-Gaudens produced multiple denominations through its syndicate. The El Monedero reference 10.4 distinguishes this specific 5-centime type within that series.
