Louis-Philippe's accession in August 1830 — the result of the July Revolution that ousted Charles X after just three days of street fighting in Paris — created an immediate administrative scramble to replace Bourbon coinage. This 5 centimes issue was among the first struck under the new Orléanist regime, and dies from the transitional period are known to carry minor inconsistencies in the royal title as the mint worked through the new authorization.
