| 正面描述 | Central round perforation flanked by the large monogram 'RF' (République Française) in bold relief, surmounted by a Liberty cap (Phrygian bonnet) above the hole. The monogram and cap are framed by two symmetrical oak branches curving around the entire field, rendered in a refined Art Nouveau style. The engraver's signature 'EM LINDAUER' appears in small characters at the bottom of the field, within the oak wreath. The design is bold and graphic, with the oak leaves providing rich decorative texture throughout the coin's surface. |

The perforated small-denomination essai series of the late 1930s emerged from a practical problem: France needed cheaper coins. The Monnaie de Paris was actively experimenting with lighter alloys and hole-punched blanks to reduce metal costs on low-value pieces that saw brutal circulation. This particular essai, in aluminium bronze rather than the standard bronze, was part of that broader program — the alloy offering better wear resistance at reduced weight.
None of these Lindauer essais entered circulation. The war intervened before any production decision was finalized.
