Obverse description The royal monogram of King Léopold II, surmounted by a crown, occupies the central field, with the central hole piercing the design. The circular legend in Dutch reads 'KONINKRIJK BELGIË' (Kingdom of Belgium), flanking the monogram along the upper periphery. The date appears below the monogram, separated by two five-pointed stars. The design is executed in low relief with a beaded border encircling the entire obverse.

Reverse description The reverse features a central round hole flanked symmetrically by a large numeral '5' to the right and a detailed olive branch to the left, its leaves and buds rendered in fine relief. Below the central hole, the denomination inscription 'CEN' appears, completing '5 CEN' as the face value indicator. The engraver's name 'A. MICHAUX' is inscribed along the lower rim. A beaded border frames the entire reverse field.
