| Obverse description | Left-facing helmeted bust of Marianne, wearing a winged or plumed helmet in the classical style, occupying the central field of the twelve-sided flan. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE curves along the upper periphery, with a small star visible above the helmet. The date 1880 is inscribed in the lower exergue beneath the bust.
