Obverse description Uniface obverse control trial strike in lead, featuring a single upright wheat ear (épi de blé) centrally positioned in the field, rendered in low relief with fine granular detail along the rachis and individual spikelets. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper and right periphery in a flowing cursive script characteristic of the Épi series design. The surrounding lead matrix is notably thick, consistent with its function as a dimensional and alignment check piece submitted to officials prior to final production striking. The overall surface displays the characteristic grey patina of oxidised lead.
