Additional information

Ouveillan is a small commune in the Aude département, and like dozens of similarly modest French towns, its local merchants pooled resources during the first decades of the twentieth century to issue nécessité coinage — privately circulated tokens that filled the gap left by chronic small-change shortages. The Commerçants Réunis model, federations of local tradespeople issuing collectively rather than individually, was especially common in the Languedoc region.

El Mon#10.1 places this among the earliest documented varieties for the issuer.
