Opmerkingen

Mostaganem's commercial syndicate issued this 5 centimes note in 1915 as emergency fractional currency — a direct response to the wartime hoarding of metal coinage that paralyzed small transactions across French Algeria. With copper and brass diverted to military needs, local chambers of commerce and trade syndicates throughout Algeria filled the gap with paper nécessité notes, each valid only within their issuing region.

These hyper-local issues were never redeemable outside the immediate commercial district, and redemption after the war was inconsistent at best. Survivors are almost entirely from unissued stock rather than genuine circulation.
