Haiti's 1953 coinage was produced during the presidency of Paul Magloire, whose government undertook a modest modernization of the national currency infrastructure following years of monetary instability. This nickel brass alloy — relatively uncommon in Caribbean coinage of the period — replaced earlier copper issues as part of that broader effort to standardize small denomination circulation.
