| Reverse description | Large denomination numeral '5' paired with a stylized 'c' monogram dominates the central field, rendered in bold raised relief. The circular legend CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 1918 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by decorative star stops. The overall composition is clean and legible, consistent with the functional demands of emergency wartime token coinage. |

Rouen's Chamber of Commerce began issuing its own emergency small change in 1918 because the wartime metal requisitions and hoarding that had gutted French fractional coinage simply left none in circulation. Aluminium was chosen precisely because it held no strategic value to the military, making it one of the few materials available for non-essential manufacture. These Chamber issues were legal within their issuing district only, redeemable at face value by the issuing body — a localized solution to a nationwide problem.
