Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Umberto I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair and a characteristic mustache and short beard. The circular legend reads UMBERTO I to the left and RE D'ITALIA to the right, following the coin's inner border of small beads. The engraver's name SPERANZA appears incuse along the lower rim beneath the truncation of the neck. The portrait is set within a plain field bordered by a continuous beaded rim.
