| Obverse description | Frontal bust of an elephant occupying the majority of the field, with large ears spread wide and prominent tusks visible at lower right. The country name SOMALIA appears in large incuse letters along the lower portion of the field, partially obscured by the elephant's trunk. The engraver's signature ROMAGNOLI is inscribed in small capitals to the left of the design, and the word PROVA appears to the lower right, identifying this piece as a pattern strike. The composition exhibits warm golden toning with iridescent highlights. |
