This is a pattern issue from the final, chaotic year before Italian unification — struck when no single authority yet controlled what coinage a unified Italy would use. Competing proposals circulated among Piedmontese ministers and mint officials throughout 1860, and Pagani records multiple bronze pattern types from this year representing different design approaches considered before the decimal coinage system was formally adopted. Few were struck in any quantity.
