Obverse lettering REPUBLICA ARGENTINA 5 CENTAVOS .1956.
(Translation: Republic of Argentina 5 Centavos 1956)
Reverse description The reverse presents a truncated left-facing bust of José de San Martín, the Argentine national hero, depicted in civilian dress with a small goatee and short hair rendered in moderate relief. The engraving is relatively understated, characteristic of the smaller-head variety of this series. The legend 'JOSE DE SAN MARTIN' curves around the portrait, reading from the lower left along the left rim and continuing across the upper right periphery. The field surrounding the bust is plain and unadorned.
