Chihuahua's 1915 emergency coinage emerged from the chaos of the División del Norte's control over northern Mexico, when Pancho Villa's forces held the state and federal currency was functionally useless across much of the region. The provisional government needed circulating small change, and copper patterns were struck experimentally before production decisions were finalized. KM#Pn5 represents one of those trials — a rejected configuration, never adopted for general issue.
The Roman numeral format was abandoned in favor of Arabic numerals for the circulating series, making this pattern a dead end in the design process rather than a precursor.
