Obverse description The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Honduras at center, depicting an oval shield bearing a volcanic mountain range rising from the sea beneath a radiant sky, encircled by an oval cartouche inscribed REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS. The shield is surmounted by a mural crown and flanked on each side by a quiver of arrows and a broadaxe bound together, with a pine tree to the lower left and an oak tree to the lower right. The date 1871 appears below the shield in the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a dentilated border.
