Obverse description The national coat of arms of Guatemala occupies the central field, featuring a resplendent quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence date legend, flanked by crossed rifles and swords with laurel branches on either side. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA runs along the upper periphery, separated from the inner design by a beaded border. The date of issue appears in the lower exergue beneath the coat of arms, also bounded by the beaded rim.
