Entre Ríos issued its own fractional currency in 1876 under provincial treasury authority — a practice that federal consolidation would soon extinguish. The Tesorería de la Provincia de Entre-Ríos had genuine legal standing to do so; Argentine provinces retained considerable fiscal autonomy in this period, and small-denomination scrip filled a chronic gap in everyday commerce that national coinage could not reliably cover at the provincial level.

Printed locally in Concepción del Uruguay, then the provincial capital, rather than in Buenos Aires. That detail alone makes this a rarity among Argentine provincial issues, most of which went to outside printers.
