| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents the denomination within a recessed pentagonal field, styled in reference to the Aztec calendar stone (Piedra del Sol). The numeral 5 and the cent symbol (¢) appear at centre, with the mint year incused above the numeral and the Mexico City mint mark (Mo) positioned above the ¢ symbol. Flanking the lower left of the pentagonal border is a partial band of stylized solar rays drawn from the Quincunces Ring (Anillo de los Quincunces) of the Piedra del Sol, lending the design its distinctive pre-Columbian character. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
This issue dates to the redenomination that took effect on January 1, 1993, when Mexico replaced the old peso at a rate of 1,000 to 1, effectively erasing three zeros from every price in the country. The 1992-dated pieces were struck in anticipation of that changeover and entered circulation the moment the new currency system launched.
Chronic peso devaluation throughout the 1980s had rendered the previous coinage nearly worthless in practical terms before the redenomination was announced.
