| 正面描述 | The Brazilian national arms occupy the central field, depicting a five-pointed star enclosing a circle with the Southern Cross constellation rendered in relief. The central device is surrounded by a ring of 27 smaller stars representing the states of the federation, and flanked on either side by sprigs of coffee and tobacco plants. A curved legend along the upper periphery reads 'REPUBLICA FEDERATIVA DO BRASIL', with the proclamation date '15 de Novembro de 1889' inscribed below the arms. The entire design is bordered by a continuous beaded rim. |

This issue belongs to the Cruzado reform coinage, launched in February 1986 when the Sarney government attempted to break Brazil's chronic inflation cycle by freezing prices and replacing the cruzeiro at a rate of 1,000 to one. The reform collapsed within two years, and by late 1988 inflation had surpassed 1,000 percent annually — rendering these small denominations effectively worthless before the series even concluded.
