Reverse description A ceiba tree (Ceiba pentandra), the national tree of Guatemala, is depicted in fine relief at center, its broad canopy spreading across the upper field and its exposed roots visible at the base amid low vegetation. The denomination 5 CENTAVOS is inscribed to the right of the trunk in two lines. The patriotic motto LIBRE CREZCA FECUNDO (Free Grows Fertile) curves along the lower periphery, separated from the field by a beaded border that runs continuously around the coin's rim.
