Obverse description Single-sided emergency issue printed in brown by letterpress on plain paper. A typeset border of repeating ornamental vignettes frames the note, enclosing a central redemption pledge in which the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines undertakes to redeem the certificate at face value upon termination of the emergency; the denomination FIVE CENTAVOS is set in large bold type above and below this text. The issuer name MINDANAO EMERGENCY CURRENCY BOARD appears at the foot alongside manuscript signatures of Florentino Saguin as Chairman and D. Pacana and I. Barbasa as Members, with a serial number at the lower right.
