A typeset border of repeating ornamental vignettes frames the note, enclosing a central redemption pledge in which the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines undertakes to redeem the certificate at face value upon termination of the emergency; the denomination FIVE CENTAVOS is set in large bold type above and below this text.
