Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of an indigenous female figure, her hair elaborately braided and adorned with a feathered headdress, wearing a large circular earring. The legend REPUBLICA PERUANA arcs along the upper rim, while the date rendered in full Spanish words (e.g. MIL NOVECIENTOS CUARENTA Y TRES) curves along the lower rim. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style with fine detail in the hair and drapery. The field is smooth and unadorned, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
