Additional information

Ecuador contracted this issue to the Philadelphia Mint, one of several foreign minting relationships the country maintained through the early twentieth century as its own infrastructure remained underdeveloped. The 1924 date falls within a period of considerable monetary instability in Ecuador, preceding the banking crisis of 1925 — the "Revolución Juliana" — which ultimately dismantled the power of the coastal banking oligarchy and reorganized the country's monetary system entirely under a new central bank founded in 1927.
