Obverse description The Ecuadorian national arms occupy the central field, depicting an oval shield charged with Mount Chimborazo and a steamship on the river below, surmounted by a condor with spread wings atop the shield. The arms are flanked on either side by four national flags draped outward, with a laurel branch to the left and a palm branch to the right. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, and the date appears in the exergue below the shield.

The central inscription is framed by a wreath of two olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow, their sprays curving upward symmetrically to either side. A fine toothed border runs along the entire circumference of the coin.
