| Obverse description | The obverse is laid out in a letterpress and lithographic style with a decorative guilloche border enclosing the main design. At upper centre, the heading "PROVINCIA DE SAN JUAN" appears in bold serif lettering, flanked at each corner by the numeral "5" within ornamental frames. To the left, an oval vignette encloses a hand holding a palm frond, set within an elaborate rococo cartouche. The central area carries the serial number in red, the date "LEY 17 DE ENERO DE 1898", a red "LETRA DE TESORERÍA" banner, and the denomination "CINCO CENTAVOS" in bold, with series letter and place/date of issue below. Two manuscript signatures appear at the foot, attributed to the Contador General and the Ministro de Hacienda. |
