Obverse description Central device features the Bolivian coat of arms enclosed within a beaded oval frame: the rising sun above two mountains — Cerro Rico and Cerro Menor of Potosí — flanked by a palm tree to the left and a wheat sheaf to the right, with a chapel in the middle ground. A llama stands in the lower portion of the arms. Nine stars arranged in an arc below the oval symbolize Bolivia's nine departments. The encircling legend REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA runs along the periphery in Latin script.
