| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central design features the Honduran coat of arms, depicting a stepped pyramid surmounted by a radiant triangle, flanked by two towers, all set within a beaded inner circle. The national legend REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS encircles the design along the upper periphery, with a small decorative ornament positioned at the base. The composition is rendered in a neoclassical engraving style typical of Latin American coinage of the late 19th century. |

Honduras contracted minting of this series to foreign facilities during the 1880s and 1890s, a reflection of the country's lack of domestic mint infrastructure following the closure of the Tegucigalpa mint in the mid-nineteenth century. The political instability of the period — Honduras cycled through multiple governments across the issue's decade-long run — did little to disrupt production, as the coins were struck abroad and shipped in.
The .835 fineness matches the Central American monetary convention of the era, aligning Honduran coinage with neighboring republics attempting regional commercial compatibility.
