| Beschrijving voorzijde | A spread-winged eagle displayed, perched atop a rocky outcrop, with its breast exposed and head facing left. The denomination '5 CENTAVOS' appears in the lower exergual area, while the circular legend 'C.A. REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS' runs along the upper periphery. The design is executed in low relief with fine detail on the eagle's plumage and the beaded border encircling the entire field. |

Honduras struck its first decimal coinage in 1879 following the monetary reform that replaced the real system, aligning the country with the broader Latin American push toward decimalization that had been accelerating since the 1860s. Production was contracted to foreign mints — this issue was struck at the Heaton Mint in Birmingham. The Heaton facility handled an outsized share of Latin American coinage during this period precisely because domestic minting infrastructure across Central America remained underdeveloped.
KM#43 had a short run. By the early 1880s the series was already being revised.
