Obverse description A traditional Ghanaian wood carving of a bird, rendered in fine intaglio, occupies the right portion of the note, mounted on a stepped pedestal beside a five-pointed star bearing the legend BANK OF GHANA. A large circular guilloche vignette with multicolour chevron underprint fills the centre-left, flanked by the denomination numeral 5 in guilloche roundels at each lower corner, with the Governor's facsimile signature below centre and the issue date at upper left.
Obverse lettering BANK OF GHANA THIS NOTE IS ISSUED ON STATUTORY AUTHORITY AND IS LEGAL TENDER FOR THE PAYMENT OF ANY AMOUNT FIVE CEDIS 5
Reverse description The central vignette presents a stylised fish carving arching over a large circular guilloche rosette bearing a five-pointed star at its centre, while a turtle carving in intaglio is positioned to the left. A traditional string instrument carving appears at the right, all set within an intricate engraved frame with denomination numerals 5 in guilloche roundels at each lower corner.
