Obverse description Central square hole surrounded by four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom and right to left. The inscription reads 咸豐重寶 (Xianfeng Zhongbao), identifying the reign era of the Xianfeng Emperor and denoting 'heavy currency.' The bold, well-defined characters fill the fields generously, characteristic of the large-type cast brass issues of this series. The flat, unadorned rim frames the composition without additional ornamentation.
