| Reverse description | Cast reverse featuring a square central perforation flanked by inscriptions in two scripts. To the right and left of the hole, Chinese characters read 當五 (Dang Wu, meaning 'Value 5'), with the denomination notation 二錢五分 (Er Qian Wu Fen, '2 Qian 5 Fen') also present. Above and below the hole, Manchu script characters read 'Boo-fu', identifying the Fuzhou Mint. The characters are in bold raised relief against a flat field, with a plain raised outer rim typical of Qing-era cast coinage. |
