| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged around the central square perforation, read in the traditional cross pattern: top to bottom and right to left. The legend reads 同治通寶 (Tongzhi Tongbao), with 同 (Tong) above the hole, 寶 (Bao) below, 治 (Zhi) to the right, and 通 (Tong) to the left. The characters are cast in moderate relief within a plain, undecorated field. The coin displays the characteristic flat rim and squared central void typical of Qing Dynasty cash coinage produced at provincial mints. |
