Obverse description Central square hole surrounded by a plain inner rim and an outer rim, with four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged symmetrically in the four cardinal positions around the central perforation. The characters are read in the traditional top-to-bottom, right-to-left sequence and form the reign title inscription 嘉定元寶 (Jiading Yuanbao). The fields show the characteristic rough, granular surface texture typical of Southern Song dynasty cast iron coinage.
