Obverse description Central square hole surrounded by a plain raised rim on both inner and outer edges. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in the traditional reading order — top, bottom, right, left — around the central perforation, reading 洪武通寶 (Hongwu Tongbao). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief against a flat, undecorated field, exhibiting the authoritative and measured calligraphic style characteristic of early Ming dynasty coinage.
