The Great Zhong State was the short-lived regime of Chen Youliang, a rival claimant who fought Zhu Yuanzhang for control of southern China during the collapse of the Yuan dynasty. Chen named his state Han in 1360, briefly using the Dazhong era name before that — making coins struck under this denomination among the rarest survivals from a losing side of one of the most consequential succession struggles in Chinese history. Chen was killed at the Battle of Lake Poyang in 1363, effectively ending armed resistance and clearing Zhu's path to founding the Ming.
