Obverse description Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform reading order around a central square perforation: top to bottom and right to left, reading 大中通寶 (Da Zhong Tong Bao). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief within a plain inner rim, with a raised outer rim enclosing the field. The coin exhibits a green patina consistent with aged bronze, with areas of encrustation across the surface.
