| Reverse description | Central square hole flanked by two Chinese characters positioned horizontally in the field, one to each side of the perforation within a raised border rim. The character 五 (Wu, meaning 'five') appears to the left and 工 (Gong, denoting the Ministry of Public Works mint) appears to the right, together indicating a denomination of five cash issued by the Gong (Ministry of Works) mint. The reverse field is otherwise plain, with a smooth, flat surface characteristic of cast brass coinage of the late Ming dynasty. |
