Venezuela's 1977 nickel pattern for the 5 Bolívares denomination was struck as the country evaluated coinage reforms during a period of significant oil revenue — the mid-1970s boom that prompted broad reconsideration of the monetary system's physical infrastructure. Pattern pieces from this program were produced in limited quantities for official evaluation and never approved for circulation.
