| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays a bold cross of the Military Order of Christ occupying the central field, its four arms dividing the date into quadrants. The numerals of the date are placed in each of the four quarters formed by the cross: 1 and 7 in the upper left and upper right, 4 and 5 (or 8, depending on the year of issue) in the lower left and lower right. The cross is rendered in a plain, broad style consistent with cast production. No additional legend or border inscription is present. |

João V's copper and tin coinage for Portuguese India occupied a peculiar administrative space — Goa's mint at Dio operated under chronic metal supply constraints throughout the 1740s, and tin was substituted where copper stocks fell short. The Bazaruco itself was the lowest denomination in daily Goan commerce, used almost exclusively by the indigenous population for market transactions the Portuguese colonial administration had little interest in tracking closely.
