Obverse description The cantonal arms of Fribourg — a shield divided horizontally, the upper half crosshatched (representing sable) and the lower half plain (representing argent) — displayed within an ornate oval cartouche surmounted by a mural crown. The shield and cartouche are flanked by a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied at the base. The denomination 5•BATZ appears in the lower exergual area, while the legend CANTON FREYBURG arcs around the upper periphery of the field.
