| Beschrijving voorzijde | The quartered cantonal arms of Aargau occupy the centre of the field, the shield displaying in the upper-left and lower-right quarters horizontal wavy lines representing the river Aar, and in the upper-right and lower-left quarters a crosshatched ground charged with a five-pointed star, evoking the three stars of the canton. The shield is flanked by symmetrical olive or laurel branches tied at the base, their sprays curving upward on either side.
