| 正面描述 | The Moldovan state coat of arms is depicted centrally in the field, featuring a displayed eagle with a cross in its beak and holding an olive branch and a sceptre in its talons, charged on its breast with a shield bearing the traditional symbols of aurochs head, star, crescent, and rose. The eagle is flanked on either side by stylised oak branches. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA MOLDOVA' runs along the upper periphery, divided left and right by the coat of arms, with a decorative landscape element at the base of the design. |

Moldova's 1993 coinage was the first series issued under the National Bank following independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, replacing the transitional cupon that had served as a stopgap currency. The aluminium composition was a practical choice for low denominations in a country navigating severe economic contraction during that period — not an aesthetic one.
