Belisario Porras served three terms as president of Panama between 1912 and 1924, overseeing the construction of hospitals, roads, and the civil registry during a period when the country was barely a decade old. This commemorative silver issue arrived well after the centenary of his birth, part of a broader Panamanian tradition of issuing collector-oriented pieces through the 1970s and early 1980s that were largely exported rather than circulated domestically.
