| Obverse description | The national arms of Muscat and Oman occupies the central field, depicting two crossed khanjar daggers overlaid by two crossed swords, all rendered in relief. A circular Arabic legend surrounds the central device within a beaded inner border, reading the name and title of Sultan Sa'id bin Taimur of Muscat and Oman. The design is bold and heraldic in character, with the legend distributed evenly around the full circumference of the coin. |

Said bin Taimur, the Sultan whose name this coin carries, was deposed by his own son Qaboos in a palace coup just months after this issue was struck — making 1970 the final year of his rule and the last for the Muscat and Oman designation itself. The country was renamed the Sultanate of Oman later that same year.
