Said bin Taimur, the Sultan whose name this coin carries, was deposed by his own son Qaboos in a palace coup just months after this issue was struck — making 1970 the final year of his rule and the last for the Muscat and Oman designation itself. The country was renamed the Sultanate of Oman later that same year.
