Pick 31 belongs to the final years Siam operated under that name — the country became Thailand in June 1939, and notes of this series were already in circulation when the renaming took effect. The "Siam" designation in the title reflects the issuing authority at the time of printing, not a retroactive classification.

Thomas De La Rue's involvement with Siamese currency dated back decades by this point, and the Series 4 contract continued that relationship through a period of considerable political instability — the absolute monarchy had been abolished in 1932, and Rama VIII himself was a minor studying in Europe during most of this note's active circulation life.
