Rama VIII — King Ananda Mahidol — died on 9 June 1946 under circumstances that were never conclusively resolved: a single gunshot wound in his bedroom at the Grand Palace, officially ruled accidental but the subject of persistent speculation that eventually led to three executions. This note was issued posthumously in his name later that same year, making it a peculiarly brief reign on paper.

Series 8 takes its informal "American" designation from Tudor Press in Boston, distinguishing it from contemporaneous Thai issues printed in the United Kingdom. Tudor Press handled relatively little foreign government currency work, and Thailand was among its more notable commissions.
